Third Cycle of Studies

  /  Third Cycle of Studies

At the Department of physics, the third cycle of studies lasts six semesters and comprises 180 ECTS.

Doctoral Studies in Physics

Holders of a master’s degree in physics are eligible to enroll in the “Doctoral studies in physics” program, but only if their GPA in the first and second cycle of studies was above 7.5 out of 10, and if they submit a recommendation letter of a potential PhD supervisor.

By choosing from four categories of elective courses, the students may deepen their knowledge in one of the following areas of physics:

  • Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics
  • High Energy Physics
  • Condensed Matter Physics
  • Applied Physics

During the first year of studies, students attend one obligatory and five elective courses, out of which at least three courses are from the field of the envisaged doctoral dissertation. Remaining two courses can be chosen from any other field, in accordance with the topic of the doctoral dissertation and personal preferences of the student. At the beginning of the studies, students together with their supervisors, choose elective courses that will help them to prepare and defend their doctoral dissertation in the best way possible. During the second and the third year of studies, students conduct activities related to preparation and defense of their doctoral dissertation. All classes are in Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian and/or English. The complete “Doctoral Studies in Physics” curriculum is provided at the following link: Doctoral Studies in Physics – 180 ECTS

Upon defense of the PhD thesis the students are awarded a PhD in Physics degree.

Doctoral Studies in Physics Education

Holders of a master’s degree in physics or physics education are eligible to enroll in the “Physics Education” doctoral study program.

In the first year of studies, the students are expected to enroll in several advanced physics education courses, whereas the second and third year of studies are exclusively reserved for planning and implementation of the doctoral research. A complete list of the offered doctoral courses together with an excerpt of the diploma supplement is provided at the following link: LIST OF COURSES

Upon defense of the PhD thesis the students are awarded a Doctor of Science in Physics Education degree.
