“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” – Henry Brooks Adams
Work at the Physics Education Subdepartment (PES) is primarily aimed at the initial education of future physics teachers and professors, as well as physics education research, in general. The PES currently has two members, a Full Professor and a Senior Teaching Assistant.
Scientific research at the Cabinet saw a tremendous ascent in the last ten years. During that time, the PES members’ main goals were the research of learning and teaching about wave optics, as well as the possibilities of implementing Rasch modelling when devising the instruments for assessing students’ achievements in learning physics.
These research activities resulted in a significant number of articles published in prestigious physics education journals.
Throughout that time, the Physics Education Subdepartment realised collaborations with many physics education research groups, from the United States of America (Miami University), through Federal Republic of Germany (IPN Kiel), to Republic of Slovenia (University of Maribor), Republic of Croatia (Universities of Zagreb, Rijeka and Split), Republic of Serbia (University of Niš), North Macedonia (Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje) and Kazakhstan (Suleyman Demirel University

PES members also contribute greatly to the advancement of the quality of education in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is especially worth to mention the contribution in the making of Sarajevo Canton’s Education and Science Development Strategy. Apart from that, the Cabinet contributes significantly in the process of professional training for physics teachers and professors.
