Subdepartment for General Physics

  /  Subdepartment for General Physics

The Department of Physics (originally the Physics group) was established as a department at the Faculty of Science Sarajevo in 1960. Two research subdepartments were formed within the Department of Physics in 1966:

  • Subdepartment for Experimental Physics and
  • Subdepartment for Theoretical Physics

The formal formation of the Subdepartment for General Physics (SGP) took place in year 2001. Today, the SGP is a multidisciplinary teaching-research unit of the Department of Physics. Members of this Subdepartment are all teachers and associates who perform the teaching process in subjects that belong to the field of General Physics. There are also two laboratory assistants who are in charge for ensuring high-quality of technical aspects of laboratory work.

SGP includes numerous general physics courses for all levels of study, both for students of the Department of Physics and students from other departments and UNSA faculties.

Within the SGP there are five general physics laboratories. In fact, the quality of the teaching process is further enriched by laboratory work. In this way, students are further educated and prepared for advanced courses in experimental physics.

The general physics labs are also beneficial for students from other departments and UNSA faculties, because it prepares them for future experimental work in their fields of study. In addition, occasionally these laboratories are visited by primary and secondary school students, as well as by the B&H team of young physicists who prepare in our labs for international physics competitions.

Two laboratory assistants of the Department of Physics are currently responsible for the successful functioning of these laboratories.
