/  Subdepartment for Astronomy and Astrophysics

“Astronomy compels the soul to look upwards and leads us from this world to another.” – Plato.

The Subdepartment of Astronomy and Astrophysics was established in 2023, with the initiative to involve the University of Sarajevo in the renovation project of the ‘Trebević’ Astropark, specifically in providing the necessary expertise. Members of the Subdepartment include all professors and associates involved in teaching subjects related to astronomy and astrophysics.

The significance of the Subdepartment of Astronomy and Astrophysics is not only reflected in its role as the leading place for teaching astronomy and astrophysics subjects at the University of Sarajevo, but it also holds great importance for the development and popularization of astronomy and astrophysics as a science in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Subdepartment has two telescopes, GSO Dobson 980 and Meade LXD55. After the observatory on Trebević is renovated, it is planned that the staff of this Subdepartment will have access to the observatory’s resources, which will also be used for practical exercises for students of the Department of Physics.
